Board Members of IEEE ASU attended the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2019 on 8th January in Las Vegas, Nevada.

CES is the world’s gathering place for technology enthusiast and has served as the proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies for 50 years — the global stage where next-generation innovations are introduced to the marketplace. CES showcases more than 4,400 exhibiting companies, including manufacturers, developers and suppliers of consumer technology hardware, content, technology delivery systems and more; a conference program with more than 250 conference sessions and more than 182,000 attendees from 160 countries. With 11 official venues, CES spans more than 2.9 million net square feet of exhibit space and features 33 product categories and 24 Marketplaces.

The Board Members volunteered at the IEEE Booth at CES and explored various new upcoming consumer electronic products. The IEEE Booth provided a VR experience of walking on the moon to all the visitors this year. It also showcased all the various technical journals and magazines based on latest breakthroughs in the tech-world for avid readers.

The major showcase this year was the self-driving cars, wearable technologies and 5G communications. Technologies such as Smart Homes, IoT infrastructure, AR/VR and Gaming, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Audio and Video were truly overwhelming. Tech-giants like Google, Intel, Qualcomm, Nvidia, Samsung, Sony, Huawei, etc. showcased their latest and greatest innovations, providing insights about their upcoming products for the 2019 calendar year. There were many new innovative startups that presented their products to the world and which can be immensely helpful to the consumers in the future.

Attending CES is an experience of a lifetime and we are glad that our board members had the opportunity to attend it. They have surely brought valuable insights and ideas from the show to create such technologies at the university. We plan to send more members each year so as to provide an opportunity to inculcate innovative ideas and share experiences with fellow students.
